pH levels:  4.8-7.4                                        Soil: prefers moist to well-drained; dry, compacted sites.

Sun: grows best with full sun                        Tolerates: partial shade, adaptable tough sites with poor fertility, occasional drought

Fall color: yellow

Flowering: cream flowers in spring             Fruits: white berries mid-late summer.

Uses: Forms a large plant colony from the original, fruit eaten by pheasants and grouse.  Provides good winter cover and habitat for migrant songbirds - especially warblers.  Found along streams and embankments. All dogwoods are host plants for Azure butterflies and food plants for many butterfly species.  

Note: Planting before May could provide a better yield.
