Nannyberry (Viburnum lentago)   Zones 2-8

Growth Rate: fast (24" or more per year)   Height: 15-18'  /  Spread: 6-12'

pH levels:  5.0 - 7.5                                    Soil: dry, well-drained, or moist sites, alkaline soil

Fall color: purple-red

Flowering: White flowers early April-June       Fruits: start out yellow and red - maturing to bluish-black berries in the fall.  

Uses: Good bird and wildlife food and cover.  Host plant for Azure butterflies and food plant for many other butterflies. Also used for mixed border, screen, windbreak    

Planting tips: Prune immediately after flowering since flower buds form in summer for the following year. Remove root suckers to control spread unless naturalization is desired.
