pH Levels: 4.0-6.5 Soil: Well-drained; light, sandy to heavy textured soils; slightly acidic
Sun: full sun Tolerate: partial shade, alkaline soils (intolerant of air pollutants and ice storms)
Cones: Light tan to whitish color; 3-6 inches long, gradually tapering
Color: Bluish green needles, 3-5 inches long with fine white lines. Young trees have smooth, light gray bark. Older tree bark becomes dark gray to black.
Uses: Good wildlife habitat, wood products, widely used for Christmas trees. Used in windbreaks, to block farm odors, screens, shade, and provides roosting habitat for Eastern Screech Owl and other owls.
