Color: Thin, scaly gray-brown bark with 1.5-2 cm long blue-green needles with a white waxy layer.
Uses: Hardy, more tolerant to deer than pines, good wildlife food and cover; provides winter forage for some wildlife; attracts colorful winter finches; good lumber tree; can be used for Christmas trees; used for screens, shade, windbreaks, soil stability; planted in riparian, upland, and treeline sites
Note: Tolerant of clay soil but good drainage is a must. The shallow, spreading root system benefits from a 3-4" layer of organic mulch.
